Description

This month long exploratory workshop focuses on realizing and sharpening personal narratives through the power of the still image. Designed for the intermediate to advanced photographic artist, participants will explore their personal narrative, aesthetics, and psychology in image making. Experimentation is encouraged as a means of pushing past the familiar and finding new ways of being expressive with our image making. This workshop aims to guide photographic artists to become emotionally connected to each image they create, and to convey their personal narrative in a meaningful, honest, and consistent manner.
Be open to the possibility of surprising yourself! Join Katie for a rich exploration of the self as we harness the power of the still image to realize your personal narrative.

Activities:
Each class meeting, we will examine work of well-known artists, engage in group and individual discussions, and participate in rigorous critique. Outside of class, students work on individualized assignments which may include creating new imagery, processing and editing, sequencing, focused reflection, researching an artist, and/or developing an artist statement. Students are invited to realize new work and/or sharpen a current portfolio over
the course of the month.

What to bring:
● Participants should have their portfolios (approximately 15-30 images) prepared either as digital files or prints. If you would like to consider more than one body of work during the workshop, please edit your images to be no more than 15 per multiple bodies of work. Please bring no more than two (2) bodies of work.
● Bring two (2) jpgs of images by other artists that most inspire you and influence your work.
● Bring one (1) jpeg of your work that best defines your work or your current body of work.
● Journal or notebook
● Laptop (if needed)
