Large format photography uses simple yet powerful cameras to produce large negatives for printing in the darkoom or digitally at incredible resolution and detail. This class is for anyone who always wanted to learn large-format photography but were concerned about the cost of the camera. In this class everything is provided: Camera, film, and on location instruction in the field with these amazing, yet simple cameras. We start on Friday evening with class session for familiarization to camera set up and operation, as well as film handling. Saturday will be spent photographing the Bristlecone Pines near Mount Evans or along Chicago Creek. Sunday is into the darkroom to develop and proof the film from the day before. The class is designed to give a basic overview of what it actually would take to create images with a large format camera, as well as the darkroom procedures.

A basic understanding of Black and White film development and darkroom procedures would be a prerequisite for this class. If you have any questions please contact the instructor.

  • We will only be working with Black and White Film in this class.
  • All students receive two weeks of complimentary access to the CPAC darkroom. Please ask the instructor about access to the darkroom after class.

Required supplies for this program:

  • Film, camera, and film holders are provided for the duration of the class.
